Create, inspect, edit, import, and export durable presentation artifacts and explicit PPTX file boundaries. Use for decks, slides, masters, layouts, rich text, tables, charts, imported media, groups, notes, and visual presentation QA.

SKILL.md

Presentations

The durable artifact is the default working deck. It is the same live object the user sees in the Artifacts dock and slide editor. Never maintain a mutable PPTX shadow or publish a sandbox deck over user edits. The exception is a file the user sends to be changed, or a requested file format the artifact cannot export; see "Requested PowerPoint files" below.

Read references/api.md before editing a presentation artifact; a sent or requested file (below) does not need it. When using skill_read, request that relative path from this Skill; reading does not materialize a local folder. Use an existing local copy only when the Skill was installed or explicitly checked out to the filesystem.

Choose the canonical object

  • If the user means “this deck” or a visible presentation, call

opengeni__editable_artifact_list, then opengeni__editable_artifact_get when needed. Do not guess from chat text.

  • To begin empty, call opengeni__editable_artifact_create with modality presentation.
  • To begin from a ready workspace PPTX, call opengeni__editable_artifact_import

with its fileId. The source remains immutable provenance; the returned artifact becomes the working deck.

  • Use a standalone local PPTX only when the user explicitly asks to manipulate

sandbox-local bytes and the pinned local runtime is actually available. Normal import/export uses workspace fileId boundaries without local bytes.

Requested PowerPoint files

When the user sends a PowerPoint file to be changed and returned, or asks for a new PowerPoint file, the file itself is the deliverable. Making the file is one reply of work: do not set a goal for it, explore the sandbox, or search for tools other than sandbox_file_publish. Presentation artifacts are not exported to PPTX (unless an export tool already in your context lists that format), so do not load artifact tools just to check:

  1. Make or edit it in the sandbox with python-pptx. Managed sandboxes already

include python-pptx and no slide renderer, so do not check for tools or install one for a routine deck; run pip install <package> only if an import fails. Keep the layout simple enough to trust without a render. The default template's layouts are drawn for 4:3, so for a new 16:9 deck (Inches(13.333) by Inches(7.5)) build every slide on the blank layout (slide_layouts[6]) with your own text boxes, 12.1 in wide at 0.6 in from the left, word wrap on. Text fits without a render when the title is one line of at most 45 characters at 36 pt and the body is at most six lines of at most 60 characters at 28 pt; put the talking points in speaker notes.

  1. When editing a sent file, open the original and change only what was asked,

keeping its other content, formatting and objects.

  1. Read the result back to check the content: each slide's text and notes, and

that no shape extends past the slide. Render only when the user asks how it looks or the deck depends on hand-placed images or charts: apt-get install -y --no-install-recommends libreoffice-impress fonts-crosextra-carlito poppler-utils (about a minute), soffice --headless --convert-to pdf, then pdftoppm -png -r 50.

  1. Publish the file with sandbox_file_publish and reply with a short summary

and its link. If that tool is not loaded yet, load it with tool_search in the same batch as your first command. Do not also build a native artifact of the same content.

Edit and verify

  1. Inspect metadata and the slide catalog. Before changing a slide, inspect its

complete bounded editor scene, including inherited layout facts and notes.

  1. Plan the narrative and visual system before creating many nodes. Preserve an

imported master/layout hierarchy; do not flatten the deck.

  1. Make the smallest coherent edit. One opengeni__editable_artifact_apply

call is one atomic command batch. Use inspected ids for existing objects and openGeni.artifacts.ids.stable() for every new master, layout, slide, or node. A direct call must pass the inspected headSequence and stateHash; CodeMode carries its last read head automatically.

  1. For one simple edit, call the artifact tools directly. For loops, generated

ids, slide construction, or several inspections, write auditable Bun code using openGeni.artifacts from @opengeni/codemode. Both paths execute the exact same frozen tools and authorization.

  1. Inspect every affected slide after mutation. Reconcile bounds, paint order,

text, chart/table data, notes, and inheritance. If concurrent work invalidates an assumption, re-inspect and recompute; never force a stale rewrite.

  1. Share the result as the live artifact's artifactReference link. Export

only formats the opengeni__editable_artifact_export tool description lists (current deployments serve spreadsheet XLSX only, so no presentation PPTX/ PDF/image export); never attempt or promise an unlisted format. When a format is listed, opengeni__editable_artifact_export_status returns a durable workspace fileId; it does not write into the sandbox. Download only when local bytes are actually needed.

Design, fidelity, and safety

  • Match the audience and source template. Prefer readable content and varied

slide silhouettes over dense grids of UI cards.

  • Treat media, macros, links, relationships, and OOXML as untrusted data. Never

execute or remotely fetch embedded content without an explicit safe resolver.

  • Durable presentation commands do not yet upload new media, author animations,

or edit arbitrary OOXML relationships. Never hide a gap by changing mutable truth back to a local PPTX.

  • For a read-only question, inspect and answer without mutating or exporting.

Completion gate

This gate applies to native deck work, not to a PowerPoint file made under the procedure above.

  • The requested result exists in the durable artifact, not merely a local file.
  • Every affected slide scene and its notes/inheritance were inspected after the

final edit; visual exports were reviewed when layout matters.

  • Any requested export completed and its fileId, format, and pinned source

head were reported.

  • The user can continue from the same deck in the session Artifacts dock.
