Turns the note, meaning the User's text, Questions and earlier Answers above the Question, into a structured report draft with a title, a summary, sections and a conclusion, keeping their Citations and inventing no sources. Use when the User asks to write up, draft a report, compile or turn their text or this note into a document.

Note to report

Turn the User's note into a draft report. The material is what came above this Question: the User's text and earlier Questions, and the earlier Answers (your previous messages).

Read the material

  • Read all of it before writing. The Question may say what the report is for, who will read it, how long it should be, or what to leave out: follow that.
  • Citations in the note appear in square brackets after a claim, as their source and an id, such as [Attention Is All You Need, p. 3 · C1]. Watch which claim each one belongs to.
  • The report drafts what the note already says. Don't add new topics, findings or facts. Leave out earlier Questions as questions, but use what their Answers found.

Structure

Write in the language the Question is written in, even when the note is in another language, and translate the headings too.

  1. Title: a # heading that says what the report is about.
  2. Summary: one short paragraph with the main points and conclusions.
  3. Sections: ## headings, organised by topic rather than in the order things were written. Merge points that are repeated, keep the reasoning that connects them, and turn notes and fragments into full sentences. Where the User's text and the Answers disagree, say so in the text rather than silently choosing one.
  4. Conclusion: what follows from the sections, and what is still open or unresolved in the note.

Write connected paragraphs; use lists only where the material is a list. Don't use tables.

Keep the Citations

  • Every claim that carried a Citation in the note keeps that Citation in the report, attached to the same claim. Keep it by its id, the way your instructions for citing say: record it with cite, giving its id (such as C1) as the passage, and put that record's marker, such as [^1], right after the claim. Do this for every claim you keep, never searching or citing a Passage for it again, even when the Documents' text is given with the Question.
  • Never write a source or an id in brackets as text, such as [Attention Is All You Need, p. 3] or [C1]: that opens nothing.
  • If cite says a Citation can't be kept, keep its claim without a marker and say plainly, in the language of the report, that its source is no longer available.
  • Never invent a source, a page or a quote, never attach a Citation to a claim it wasn't attached to, and don't write a list of sources or a bibliography.
  • Claims that had no Citation stay without one. If one of them is an important factual claim, you may mark it "(source needed)", in the language of the report, so the User can check it.

Say what is missing

If the note has little in it, or nothing on part of what the Question asks for, say so plainly and draft only what the note supports. Don't pad the report with general knowledge.
