SKILL.md

Executive Communication and Professional Integrity

When to Use

  • Encountering questions outside your knowledge or expertise
  • Need to present solutions to executives with extremely limited time (e.g., elevator encounters)
  • Risk of being tempted to bluff or obscure ignorance
  • Preparing concise pitches for solutions, products, or proposals

Core Workflow

1. Apply the Elevator Rule (30-Second Pitch)

Deliver complete solution explanations in 30 seconds:

Content Structure:

  • Entry Point: Start with the core problem the team initially discussed
  • Recommendation: State the specific action clearly
  • Benefit: Quantify the specific benefit and timeframe (e.g., "increase decorative sales by 50% within 3 years")
  • Prioritize: If multiple recommendations exist, present only the 3 most important (highest impact)
  • Data: Include supporting data only if time permits (purchaser analysis, interview highlights, field observations)

Standard Template: "We believe if you [specific action], within [timeframe], [key metric] will [specific change/benefit]. We can discuss details later."

Example: "We believe if you reconfigure sales staff by purchaser category, within 3 years, decorative sales will increase by 50%. We can discuss details later."

2. Maintain Professional Integrity

When facing questions you cannot answer:

Recognize the Trap:

  • Do not attempt to bluff using credentials or quick thinking to fabricate answers
  • Bluffing leads to off-topic responses and long-term credibility loss
  • The cost of admitting ignorance is far less than the cost of being caught bluffing

Correct Response:

  • State immediately: "I'm not sure—I haven't looked at that yet" or "Sorry, I lost focus for a moment"
  • Be direct and immediate; do not make excuses
  • Trust that superiors understand human limitations

Organizational Context:

  • Professional integrity applies to clients, team members, and yourself
  • Companies should instill these values from employee onboarding
  • Superiors will understand and respect honest admissions

Key Principles

  • Brevity with Substance: 30 seconds is sufficient for core recommendations if prioritized correctly
  • Honesty Over Image: Short-term embarrassment from admitting ignorance outweighs long-term reputation damage from bluffing
  • Executive Respect: Concise communication demonstrates respect for executive time and your own expertise boundaries

Constraints

  • Elevator Rule not suitable for detailed technical justification
  • Integrity principle not applicable when deliberately hiding critical safety or compliance information

Output

Concise, persuasive executive communications and maintained professional credibility through honest knowledge boundary management.
