Checking that the SKILL.md file is still in the repository.
Cut a new pure-tls release. Bumps version in pure-tls.asd, verifies the build and tests pass, generates release notes, commits, tags, and pushes. Use when asked to "release", "cut a release", "bump version", or "tag a new version".

Release pure-tls
Follow these steps exactly, stopping on any failure.
1. Determine version
If the user provided a version ($ARGUMENTS), validate that it matches MAJOR.MINOR.PATCH where each component is a non-negative integer (e.g. 1.12.0). If it doesn't, stop and tell the user.
If no version was provided, suggest one:
- Read the current version from
:versioninpure-tls.asd(the first occurrence — the main system definition). - Review commits since the last tag:
``bash git log $(git describe --tags --abbrev=0)..HEAD --oneline ``
- Apply semver rules:
- MAJOR bump: commits contain breaking changes (removed features, changed APIs, incompatible behavior)
- MINOR bump: commits add new features, new protocol capabilities, new API surface
- PATCH bump: commits are only bug fixes, documentation, or internal improvements
- Present the suggested version with a one-line rationale and ask the user to confirm or override.
Use the confirmed version as VERSION for all subsequent steps.
Check the tag doesn't already exist:
If output is non-empty, stop — this version has already been released.
Ensure clean working tree:
If there are staged or unstaged changes to tracked files, stop and ask the user to commit or stash first.
Then check untracked files. If any look like they don't belong in the repo (log files, binaries, build artifacts, temp files, editor backups, etc.), list them and ask the user whether to clean up, add to .gitignore, or proceed anyway. Benign untracked files (e.g. .claude/, local config) are fine to ignore silently.
Verify git identity:
If the result is not green@moxielogic.com, stop and tell the user their git email is misconfigured for this repository.
Ensure we're on master and synced with remote:
If the branch is not master, or there are upstream commits not yet pulled, stop and tell the user.
Check CI is green on HEAD:
If the result is not success, stop and warn the user that CI is failing on master. Ask whether to proceed anyway.
2. Update version
Edit pure-tls.asd and update ALL :version fields to "VERSION". There are multiple system definitions in the file (pure-tls, pure-tls/cl+ssl-compat, pure-tls/test) — update each one.
3. Build and test
If the build fails, stop and report the failure. Do NOT continue.
If any tests fail, stop and report the failure. Do NOT continue.
4. Update CHANGELOG.md
Release notes live in CHANGELOG.md at the repo root, in Keep a Changelog format. There are no per-release files; docs/release-notes/ was consolidated into this file.
Ordinarily the work is already described under ## [Unreleased], and releasing is just a matter of promoting that section:
- Change the
## [Unreleased]heading to## [VERSION] - YYYY-MM-DDusing
today's date.
- Add a fresh, empty
## [Unreleased]heading above it. - Update the link references at the bottom of the file:
- point
[Unreleased]atcompare/vVERSION...HEAD - add
[VERSION]: .../compare/vPREVIOUS...vVERSION
If [Unreleased] is thin or empty, fill it in first. To decide what belongs, diff against the most recent tag:
Include ONLY user-facing changes, under the standard headings — Added, Changed, Deprecated, Removed, Fixed, Security:
- Security fixes (reference CL-SEC advisory IDs if applicable, link to https://cl-sec.github.io/cl-sec-advisories/)
- Bug fixes
- New features
- Breaking changes (if any) — under
Changed, led with BREAKING
Do NOT include internal changes (refactors, lint fixes, doc updates, CI changes, directory reorganization). Those are visible in the git log for anyone who needs them.
Match the voice of the existing entries: prose that explains what was wrong and why it mattered, not bare one-liners.
The release workflow extracts this version's section from CHANGELOG.md for the GitHub release body, and FAILS the release if no ## [VERSION] section exists — so the heading must be in place before the tag is pushed.
5. Commit
6. Tag and push
Ask the user for confirmation before pushing, then:
Pushing the tag triggers GitHub Actions which automatically creates the GitHub release with release notes.
