This skill should be used when the user wants to write or post a Slack announcement, says things like "draft an announcement", "write a message for Slack", "post something to the team", "send an update to the channel", "announce X to my team", "write a Slack post about Y", or provides bullet points and wants them turned into a polished, ready-to-post Slack message. Use this skill to turn rough ideas into clean, channel-ready Slack announcements.

Announcement Drafter

Turn a rough idea or bullet points into a clear, concise Slack announcement and post it to the specified channel once approved.

Workflow

Step 1 — Gather the essentials

Collect the three things needed to write the announcement. Ask only for what the user hasn't already provided.

Ask in a single message if all three are missing, or ask individually if only one or two are needed:

  1. What is the announcement about?

Ask for a brief description, bullet points, or any rough notes.

  1. Which Slack channel will this go to?

Examples: #general, #team, #clients, #product, #announcements.

  1. What tone should it have?
  • Casual — friendly, conversational, feels like a teammate talking
  • Formal — professional, structured, suitable for clients or leadership
  • Urgent — direct, clear, action-required framing
Step 2 — Draft the announcement

Write a clean announcement that fits these rules:

  • Length: 5–7 lines maximum. Slack messages should be scannable.
  • Structure:
  • Opening line: grabs attention, states the "what" immediately
  • Body (2–4 lines): context, details, or any relevant info
  • Closing line: clear next step, CTA, or deadline if applicable
  • Formatting: Use Slack markdown sparingly — bold (*text*) for key terms, bullet points only if listing 3+ items
  • Tone: Match exactly what the user specified

Do not pad with unnecessary phrases like "I hope this message finds you well" or "Please don't hesitate to reach out."

Step 3 — Present the draft

Show the draft announcement clearly, labeled with the target channel and tone. Format it exactly as it will appear in Slack.

Then ask: "Want me to adjust the tone or any details before I post it?"

Step 4 — Revise if needed

If the user requests changes:

  • Apply them precisely
  • Show the updated version
  • Ask for confirmation again

Repeat until the user approves.

Step 5 — Post to Slack

Once the user approves, post the final message to the specified Slack channel using the Slack MCP connector.

Confirm success with: "Posted to #[channel] ✓"

Tone Reference

Casual example opening lines
  • "Hey team 👋 quick update:"
  • "FYI — something important coming up:"
  • "Just a heads up:"
Formal example opening lines
  • "Please be advised that:"
  • "We'd like to inform the team that:"
  • "This is to announce:"
Urgent example opening lines
  • "⚠️ Action required:"
  • "🚨 Important — please read:"
  • "Time-sensitive update:"

Edge Cases

  • Slack not connected: Inform the user that Slack needs to be connected first via the Cowork connectors panel, then offer to copy the announcement to clipboard or just display it.
  • Channel name not specified: Default to asking before drafting, since the tone may change based on the audience.
  • Announcement is too long: Trim it to fit the 5–7 line limit and note what was condensed.
  • User approves but wants minor last-second tweak: Apply the tweak, confirm, then post. No need to loop the full approval again.

Tone Guidelines

Always match the requested tone. Default to Casual if none is specified, since most internal Slack comms are informal. Only go Formal if the user says clients, leadership, or official communication are involved.
