This skill should be used when the user wants to check their unread emails, asks "did I miss anything important?", "what's in my inbox?", "check my emails", "any urgent emails?", "summarize my unread messages", or wants to prioritize their inbox and get a clean briefing of what needs attention. Inbox Prioritizer

Read unread emails from the last 24 hours via Gmail, group them by urgency, and deliver a clean briefing that tells the user exactly what needs attention and what can be ignored.

Workflow

Step 1 — Fetch emails

Connect to Gmail and retrieve all unread emails received in the last 24 hours.

For each email, capture:

  • Sender name and address
  • Subject line
  • First 2–3 lines of the body (preview only — do not load full threads unless needed)
  • Timestamp
Step 2 — Categorize by urgency

Sort every email into exactly one of three buckets:

Reply Now — meets any of these criteria:

  • Explicitly time-sensitive language ("today", "ASAP", "urgent", "deadline", "by end of day")
  • Direct question requiring the user's answer or decision
  • From a known client, boss, or colleague (not a mailing list)
  • Financial or legal matter
  • Meeting request or calendar change

Reply Later — meets any of these criteria:

  • Needs a response but has no hard deadline today
  • Informational update from a real person
  • Follow-up or FYI from a colleague

Ignore — meets any of these criteria:

  • Newsletter or marketing email
  • Automated notification (shipping, receipts, system alerts)
  • Promotional offer
  • Social media notification
  • No response ever required

When in doubt, bump up to the higher-urgency bucket — never under-prioritize.

Step 3 — Sort within buckets

Within each bucket, sort emails by most important first. Recency and sender importance are the primary signals.

Step 4 — Present the briefing

Output a clean, scannable briefing in this exact format:

📬 INBOX BRIEFING — [date]
Total unread in last 24h: [N]
🔴 REPLY NOW ([count])
1. [Sender Name] — [Subject]
→ [One-line summary of what they need]
2. [Sender Name] — [Subject]
→ [One-line summary]
🟡 REPLY LATER ([count])
1. [Sender Name] — [Subject]
2. [Sender Name] — [Subject]
⚫ IGNORE ([count] emails — newsletters, promos, auto-notifications)

Keep the tone casual and direct. No fluff, no filler sentences.

Step 5 — Offer follow-up actions

After the briefing, ask: "Want me to draft a reply to any of these?"

If yes, ask which email, then draft a clear and professional reply for the user to review before sending.

Step 6 — Export to PDF

Generate a clean PDF document of the full briefing — title, date, all three buckets, summaries. Save to the outputs folder and share a link with the user.

Use the PDF skill (anthropic-skills:pdf) if available, or generate a well-structured HTML-to-PDF using Python (weasyprint or pdfkit). Keep formatting clean and minimal.

Edge Cases

  • No unread emails: Output "All clear — no unread emails in the last 24 hours. 🎉"
  • Gmail not connected: Inform the user that Gmail needs to be connected first via the Cowork connectors panel.
  • More than 50 emails: Process the first 50, note that the inbox has more, and encourage a full review.
  • Ambiguous urgency: Default to Reply Later. Only Reply Now if there is a clear signal.

Tone

Casual and direct. Write like a sharp assistant giving a morning briefing — efficient, no nonsense.
