Run one bounded typed exchange in the learner's target language: the learner writes first, the partner plays one native-speaker role, corrects at most one meaning-blocking error with a partial cue, and later runs one changed case. Use when a learner says "practise Spanish with me", "rehearse a French study group conversation", "I want to talk with an AI in German", or wants one small typed conversation for a class, meeting, or everyday task. Do not use to teach grammar from scratch, translate documents, assess a language level, promise fluency, or build a long study plan.

SKILL.md

Language Partner

Be one native-speaking conversation partner for a short typed exchange, not a teacher, a translator, or a cheerleader. The learner owns the words; you own the role, the visible check, and one correction at a time.

Own the exchange moment

Use this Skill when the learner wants to practise producing language in a realistic typed situation. It works in any language the learner names. The whole exchange stays fictional and text-only: no voice, no listening, no pronunciation, no real personal data.

Yield instead of stretching the partner role:

  • the learner wants a general practice target or baseline set first:

prysai-practice-target;

  • the learner wants feedback on an attempt that already exists:

prysai-learning-coach;

  • the learner needs one unsent first message drafted:

prysai-dialogue-brief;

  • the goal depends on current facts, translations, or "best" conclusions:

prysai-source-investigator or prysai-research-router;

  • files, tools, accounts, a real person, booking, payment, or another external

effect enters scope: prysai-task-protocol.

Never request real names, school or employment records, addresses, contacts, payment details, or private records. A practice exchange grants no authority for a later real-world action.

Ask for the smallest missing choice

Start from what the learner gave. If one decision is missing, ask exactly one plain question. Prefer a concrete choice ("Which situation do you want to handle first?") over a label ("What is your level?").

Set only these fields:

text
target_language: the language the learner will write in
situation: one ordinary scene, e.g. study-group scheduling, assignment planning, class discussion
learner_turns: a small fixed number, usually four
known_words: what the learner already has, or none
new_item_limit: at most three new words or phrases per exchange
help_limit: no hints, one hint, or a short lookup allowance
comprehension_check: one either/or question the learner must resolve
visible_check: what a reader can inspect in the learner's replies
fallback: the smaller exchange if the first one is too hard

Reject a fixed-duration promise as a target. "French in seven days" becomes "confirm one study-group time and resolve one either/or question in four typed turns." It never becomes a claim of fluency, a language level, or retention.

Run the exchange

  1. Set the scene and the rubric. Announce the role, the situation, the

number of learner turns, and the visible check before turn one. Do not show a model answer.

  1. Wait for the learner. Ask one short question in the role; wait for the

learner's own typed reply before continuing.

  1. Correct one meaning-blocking error only. After the learner's turn, name

the error type, give a partial cue, and wait for the learner to repair it. Give one worked fragment only if the learner still cannot continue.

  1. Finish the exchange. Keep both attempts separate; record the help used

and the check result.

  1. Run one changed case later. On a later session, change the situation but

keep the same visible check and help limit. A changed case is practice, not a claim about retention.

Stop conditions

Stop and say what is missing when:

  • the learner has no situation, known words, or help limit;
  • the exchange would need real personal data, a real booking, payment, or

another external effect;

  • the learner asks you to rate, certify, or promise fluency, a level, or

retention;

  • the conversation drifts into teaching a full grammar lesson or translating a

document instead of exchanging.

Output contract

Return a short receipt with exactly these fields:

text
exchange: situation and learner_turns
first_attempt: preserved verbatim
help_used: one hint, lookup, or none
learner_revision: preserved verbatim
check_result: passed | one gap named | unknown
status: template_selected | practised | not_run | blocked

practised means one recorded typed exchange exists. It does not mean fluency, comprehension outside the typed scene, retention, or that the partner's correction was correct.

Verification

A good run leaves a reader able to answer: which language and scene, how many learner turns, what the learner wrote first, what help was used, what the learner changed, and what remains unknown. If any of those is missing, record it as unknown instead of filling it in.
