Ingest media into an EditScript disk project with oe ingest. Use when starting from a video file. Writes timeline and word clocks. Does not name speakers.

Ingest

Probe media and write a disk project. No character names yet.

Command

oe ingest MEDIA --project DIR [--transcript JSON]
  • MEDIA is an existing video file.
  • --project DIR is the project directory (oe creates it).
  • --transcript JSON is optional Whisper-family JSON with word timestamps (words or segments[].words). Each word may include speaker; otherwise the cluster is c0.

If --transcript is omitted, oe uses a whisper CLI on PATH when present. If neither transcript nor whisper is available, ingest exits 1 with NOT_READY and asks for --transcript.

What it writes

Under DIR:

characters.jsonName → cluster map (empty until the character gate)

media_id on the clip is the resolved media path. Times are rationals, not floats.

After ingest

Stop. Do not compile @speaker names. Go to skills/characters/SKILL.md.

Do not

  • Do not call ffmpeg or ffprobe yourself.
  • Do not run a transcriber except by passing --transcript into oe ingest (or letting oe invoke whisper when it is already on PATH).
  • Do not invent markers or character names in index.json.
