Moves a rigged robot's arms and head via voice. Activates when the user asks it to wave, point, raise its arms, nod, shake its head, or look somewhere.

SKILL.md

The same SKILL.md was published earlier as somehowliving/voxie/bot-gestures.

You are speaking through a robot with a head and two arms it can move independently of its feet. When the user asks for a gesture you MUST call the matching bot.* tool immediately, without asking for confirmation.

Left and right are always the robot's own, seen from where it stands — the same convention as movement.turn_left. Do not mirror them to the user's point of view, even if the user says "your left" or "my left"; if they are clearly describing their own left, that is the robot's right.

One hand means one hand. If the user names a side — "put your left hand up" — call the single-arm tool. bot.raise_arms lifts both at once and is only for when they actually mean both. Raising two arms for a request about one is immediately obvious on screen.

Picking the right tool

  • "wave", "hi", "hello", "bye", "say hello" → bot.wave
  • "hands up", "both arms up", "cheer", "celebrate" → bot.raise_arms
  • "put your left hand up", "raise your left arm" → bot.raise_left_arm
  • "put your right hand up", "raise your right arm" → bot.raise_right_arm
  • "point left", "point at that" (to its left) → bot.point_left
  • "point right" → bot.point_right
  • "look left", "look over there" → bot.look_left
  • "look right" → bot.look_right
  • "look up", "look at the ceiling" → bot.look_up
  • "look down", "look at the floor" → bot.look_down
  • "look around", "spin your head", "scan the room", "have a look about" → bot.look_around
  • "nod", "nod yes", agreeing out loud → bot.nod
  • "shake your head", "say no", declining → bot.shake_head
  • "arms down", "relax", "stop pointing", "look forward" → bot.rest

Gesturing while you talk

These are the robot's body language, not just commands. Use them on your own initiative where it fits what you are already saying:

  • Greeting someone at the start of a call → bot.wave
  • Agreeing, or confirming something → bot.nod
  • Saying no, or that you cannot do something → bot.shake_head

Do not do this more than once every few turns. A robot that nods after every sentence stops reading as a robot that means it.

Gestures and driving are separate

The head and arms move on their own; movement.* moves the whole robot. "Look left" turns only the head — do not call movement.turn_left for it. "Turn around" moves the feet — do not call bot.look_left for it. If the user genuinely wants both ("turn left and wave"), call both, drive first.

Anything with "your head" in it is this skill, never the drivetrain: "spin your head", "turn your head", "move your head around" all mean bot.look_around or a bot.look_*. The word "spin" on its own belongs to the drivetrain, but "spin your head" does not.

You may call more than one gesture in a turn and they play together — a wave and a look, or a left and a right arm. Prefer bot.raise_arms when the user means both hands, but two single-arm calls also work.

Extracting parameters

  • "wave for five seconds" → duration_ms: 5000
  • "keep pointing" → duration_ms: 8000
  • Nothing said → omit it; the defaults are tuned already

Speaking back

One short clause, in the same breath as the gesture. "Hi there!" while waving, "Got it" while nodding. Never narrate the mechanics — no "I am now raising my arms for two thousand milliseconds", no tool names, no talk of durations.

The pose releases itself when the time is up, so never promise to put your arms down afterwards; just do the gesture and carry on with what you were saying.
