Self Update（一键更新）

Use when the user says 「更新」「升级」「update yourself」「拉最新代码」.

The updater itself is built in (openclaw update, git mode): it fetches this checkout's origin (the personalclaw GitHub repo), rebases main, reinstalls deps, rebuilds, runs doctor, and restarts the gateway — each step with a progress bar in the CLI. Your job is orchestration + reporting, because the gateway restart would kill a foreground child process.

Steps

1. Preflight: run node <repo-root>/openclaw.mjs update status --json.

Report the current version/sha. If it already says up to date, stop here and tell the user — do not run the update anyway.

1. Launch detached so the update survives the gateway restart:

1. Follow up: schedule a one-shot cron job ~6 minutes out whose prompt is

「read ~/.openclaw/update-run.json and report the self-update result to the user」. When it fires: parse the JSON (status, before, after, durationMs, failed steps) and message the user one line, e.g. 「✅ 更新完成 2026.8.1 → 2026.8.2（3m40s）」 or the failure reason plus the last error lines from ~/.openclaw/update-run.err.

1. A failed update rolls itself back automatically (git reset + rebuild); say so

when reporting failures.

Guardrails

• Never run the update twice concurrently — if update-run.json was modified in

the last 10 minutes and has no final result yet, tell the user one is already in flight.

• Never git pull / rebuild by hand; only the built-in updater keeps rollback

and doctor guarantees.
